I love to have fresh sunflowers in my home in the summertime. Last Sunday, I picked up two bunches from the grocery store. Usually, I select a nice vase for fresh flowers, but I prefer a mason jar or white ceramic pitcher for sunflowers. I strive to surround myself with beauty and I have enjoyed these bright blooms all week.

Inside this pitcher that I picked up from Target, I have an old Victoria marinara jar to help group the ten blooms together (which would be more helpful for one of my other white pitchers with a wider opening) and put water in. After dumping the remaining water, I add hot tap water to the jar nearly every day as they seem thirsty! Sometimes, I will mix in the tiniest bit of sugar. I always trim flower stems at an angle regularly and with sunflowers, you should do this in the morning. This kind of flower does seem to last awhile, but the heads droop because they are heavy and/or do not have enough water.

I try to have sunflowers at home at least once a summer in order to celebrate the season. …and to remind myself to dream of standing in a sunflower field in Tuscany!

Sunflowers look so lovely in a white vase!
I haven’t savored it yet, but I was inspired by your prior post about aperitivo and bought some cheese, crackers, and salami on my last grocery store trip. Yum!
I too love sunflowers but experienced the drooping head problem too. I agree that certain flowers look best in something more rustic like a simple jar. I am trying to take advantage of wildflowers these days since summer is so short!
In the suburbs of Chicago, many farms have sunflower fields to visit and you can take incredible photos!!!’ We went as a family last year and this year my college freshman went with friends. They took the cutest friends photos ever!
I love how you put yours in the white vase. They look so pretty.
