One of my recent simple pleasures was reading a novel entitled One Summer in Venice by Nicky Pellegrino. Even though I was already reading a memoir set in Italy, I happened to stumble upon this blog post about books set in Venice on Pinterest. I promptly ordered this particular title, abandoned the book I was reading, and savored the eBook on my Kindle. This novel is set in Venice, Italy. The main character is a woman who escapes her full life in London to spontaneously spend some time in Venice. In attempt to improve her life, she examines what exactly brings her joy. She owns a restaurant, so a lot of the novel is devoted to local food. I love to eat, so this is fantastic. The descriptions of this unique place are vivid. I felt like I was in Venezia! She also makes some fascinating friends. It was great to see her and their transformations. I highly recommend this captivating novel. I devoured it quickly! It is the perfect easy breezy summer read. And a nice escape to Italy when travel may be restricted right now.

I enjoyed this book so much that I am already 44% through another novel by this author! I am currently reading A Year at Hotel Gondola. This story is also set in Venice. One of the colorful characters from One Summer in Venice appears in this one too. This is about a woman who was a world traveler, but is writing a book about one year settled down in Venice, helping her new boyfriend run his small hotel there. This main character also enjoys food and cooking. I bought both books on Amazon. You can find One Summer in Venice here and A Year at Hotel Gondola here. So happy to have found an author who writes novels set in Italy, I look forward to reading more from Nicky Pellegrino!

I used to be a voracious reader and would like to start reading regularly again. A novel that I cannot put down helps kickstart the habit. I am grateful to have found One Summer in Venice.
