I treated myself to gelato from Gran Caffe L’Aquila in Philadelphia recently. I cannot travel to this city at the moment, but I was able to have four pints shipped to my home. Gelato is ice cream, Italian-style. It is made in a way to have a richer flavor when compared to ice cream. The plural of gelato is gelati. This particular restaurant is famous for their gelato. On their website, I ordered my favorite flavors, Bacio and Fondente. Bacio is a milk chocolate and hazelnut combination with dark chocolate and hazelnut chips in it. Bacio means “kiss” in Italian and is inspired by a chocolate made by Perugina which is similar to the more widely known Ferrero Rocher. It is fun and actually has been my favorite of the two flavors this summer. Fondente is 70% dark chocolate. It is fudgy and decadent, like a well-made dark chocolate truffle would be. Having sampled Fondente on trips to Philadelphia, I immediately fell in love with the flavor. Both are delicious.

After lunch, I served myself three small scoops as dessert because I remember receiving three scoops or flavors during my first trips to Italy. Gelato is so rich and satisfying that you only need a little. I don’t even use toppings I would add to my chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream! It is nice to have a frozen treat in the summertime.

If you are interested, I highly recommend both of these flavors. And if you are in the United States, any that Gran Caffe L’Aquila offers! The description of every single one sounds enticing! One of the options is to choose four flavors. They ship nationwide.

What a treat to be able to order these frozen! How do they ship them? My simple pleasure was a piece of maple sugar candy from my favourite hometown sugar shack 😋
They ship them in dry ice quickly.

I checked their website and all the flavors sound so good, it would be hard to choose! Fondente is one I would definitely try. I love dark chocolate. Enjoy!
