This morning, I enjoyed a pain au chocolat for breakfast. It was delicious… I paired my pastry with illy espresso sweetened with some sugar. It was a nice treat to celebrate a holiday weekend.

The pain au chocolat is a pastry with a couple bars of chocolate inside. It is actually French, not Italian. A sweet breakfast, however, is completely Italian. I love it! Although, the typical pastry in Italy is known as a cornetto, which is less buttery than a French croissant and is often filled with apricot jam.

A good pain au chocolat takes me back to Paris… Eating a pain au chocolat from Eric Kayser for breakfast on a stone bench in the Louvre’s courtyard, surrounded by stunningly beautiful architecture, on an April morning, anticipating an exciting day of sightseeing.

I ordered these chocolate croissants from Williams Sonoma for my birthday and I highly recommend them. I set one out on a baking sheet covered with a piece of parchment paper and leave it overnight. The next morning, I find it a little bigger. I pre-heat the oven at 375 degrees F for 15 minutes and then bake one uncovered for another 15.

Hello Michelle,
I’m glad you have been enjoying your simple pleasure Sunday with pain au chocolat. I love pain au chocolat too. I’ve just found a recipe how to make them without the fuss. Let see how it will turn out though.
The William Sonoma’s looks pretty good. I’ve only tried their pancake mixes which is pretty good too. Have a wonderful day!
