Signature Sunday: Nail Polish: Mademoiselle by essie

Posted on February 21, 2016May 10, 2020 by the italiagal
Meet Mademoiselle.

I continue with my little Nail Polish sub-series of my five signature polishes, revealing the second color in this Signature Sunday post. You can read about my first one here. Today, I chose my sheer neutral polish called Mademoiselle by essie for my February manicure. I bought a new bottle of this polish when I ordered Style Hunter from Ulta. I actually brought my own bottle to my regular nail salon this morning. I haven’t had a professional manicure since October, so it was a nice treat. Also, even though the formula is decent, a professional can still paint a sheer better than this amateur can, so that it’s flat, not streaky or uneven at all. I’m wearing two coats of color in the photos.

This color achieves a chic, polished look, that almost appears effortless since it’s understated. It’s marketed as a “classic, grown-up pink” which I love! Anything timeless and sophisticated. It’s almost like wearing a clear coat but it definitely has a slightly pink white cloudiness to it. It’s also soft and feminine. When my nails are a bit long, it’s my go-to shade. (I think a rich hue on a shorter nail still looks good, modern even.) If I’m in the mood for something different, it’s also the one since my other lacquers are all vibrant and opaque. I’ve been wearing this for years now, but I bet that fellow Francopile Jennifer from The Daily Connoisseur inspired me to try it.

    Pretty polish…soft and very feminine.
I have been polishing my nails since New Years.
Love having fun experimenting with colour…I am getting better at the application too.
Hope you have a great week.

Thank you! I've been reading about your neutral yet edgy choices on your blog. Of course, I prefer that bright Jaguare one. Maybe you could consider Mademoiselle as pale pink is one of the Pantone colors of the year, rose quartz. It's not edgy, but kind of trendy. And it has a French name!

      I will, grazie! You too.

I love colorful nail polish but you can never go wrong with a sheer pink! I think I had contemplated getting Mademoiselle or Ballet Slippers but opted for Vanity Fairest.

Since I really love rich color, especially in accessories and nail polish, I don't like neutrals or blah beige in those kinds of accents. So, I couldn't do Ballet Slippers, which a pinkish nude. I haven't heard of Vanity Fairest before your comment. Its shimmer piques my interest and I'm happy it works for you, but in my research it seems to fall in between Ballet Slippers and the pinkish white Mademoiselle, maybe still a bit too nude for me. The only other sheer I have tried is Kiss on the Chic by OPI a couple of years ago. This is what I wore on my trip to Paris. It was almost too much color for a sheer though. I thought it was pink, but it turned out to be a peachy-pink. Peach just isn't my favorite. I do appreciate that a sheer could be a part of le no makeup look though. I'll stick with Mademoiselle as my only sheer for now.

Hmm maybe I did pick the color bc I couldn't choose one or the other so I picked something in btwn? Lol I honestly can't remember! Looking at my bottle & comparing it to your pictures, mine seemed more pink, but maybe there is a bit of that nude quality to it. Actually, I forgot I even had this color. I'm going to have to compare it to some other sheers I have from different brands.
