Simple Pleasure Sunday: Doritos

The Saturday before last, I had an Open House at the apartment community where I work. In preparation for it, the property manager purchased a bunch of refreshments. Of them, I happened to sample a couple small bags of Doritos last week. I love Doritos tortilla chips, the Nacho Cheese flavor in particular.

If you are a longtime reader of this blog, then you know that I firmly believe in experiencing simple pleasures and am a thoroughly positive individual. But if I ever had a "guilty pleasure," it's definitely eating Doritos because my mother abhors them. Being made fun of as a kid and knowing that the ingredients (such as garlic and onion powders) would make our breath smell bad, she never wanted her three children to be teased. I can't help but think that I'm not supposed to be eating them every single time I do.

Doritos are a rare indulgence for me though. Some years, I'll enjoy an entire large bag once a year. Other years like this one, I will grab a little bag every once in a long while. They sell a bag that is a little larger than what's pictured here near the deli counter of my grocery store. If I'm buying sandwich stuff for the week, I might pair my first one with a side of spicy Doritos.

I don't even like this sort of thing usually! I don't like macaroni and cheese, mainly because of the unnatural color of some of the product from the major brands. And the cheese dust of other snacks will stick to your fingertips. I don't care for Cheetos, Cheez Doodles, cheese balls or anything like that. I suppose I do like Cheez-Its. ...but I love and crave Doritos.

Update: I wrote about my weight loss goal of six pounds in this post last Monday. As of this morning, I am proud to announce that I have lost four pounds! That's what I gained in April and then maintained in May. Now, just for those stubborn last two pounds!
